OUR BREEDS

Here at Rosedale we specialise in three breeds; the Cockapoo, Cavapoo and Cavapoochon

We have focused on wonderful breeds that make a great addition to the family, as well as having desirable non-low shedding coats. We are often asked… What does F1 mean? What’s the difference in their coats? Please read on to find out!

During your search for your dream dog, you’ve probably come across the terms F1, F1b and F2. ‘F’ simply refers to the generation of the puppy.

F1
This is a first generation cross, meaning it is a puppy whose parents are both purebred. For example, we breed F1 Cockapoos from a Cocker Spaniel mother and a Poodle father.

F1b
In this case, one of the puppy’s parents is a purebred and the other is a first generation (F1). An F1b Cockapoo at Rosedale will have an F1 Cockapoo mother and a purebred Poodle father. The F1b’s at Rosedale are always crossed back to the Poodle, producing curlier coats, making them ideal for allergy sufferers.

F2
An F2 Cockapoo puppy will have an F1 Cockapoo Mother and an F1 Cockapoo father. We do not currently breed second generation puppies at Rosedale as we can’t guarantee the traits of the F2 puppies.

We find that puppies inherit their main looks from their mothers. Therefore, we breed from Spaniel and Cavachon mothers and have the Poodle as the father. Also, the traditional way to breed dogs is for the mother to come first in the name. So, Cockapoos are traditionally bred from a Cocker Spaniel mother and a Poodle father and Cavapoos from a Cavalier mother and Poodle father.
